While reading about Our Financial Failings in the Business section of The Washington Post this morning, and feeling anxious about financial advisor gloom, I noticed another article on why people blog on the adjacent page (see Bloggers on the Reasons Behind Their Daily Words). So why do people blog? For that matter why do I?

For some they write to stay in touch with friends and family; others use blogs as formal business marketing and strategy; others as daily diaries. However, some view bloggers as “28.7 million illiterate fools with a digital soapbox who cannot manage to correctly spell the word ‘definitely,’ even with the help of a spellchecker” (in the article mentioned). Hmmm, that seems a bit brash.
My reasons for blogging are similar to others quoted in the article: hobby, communication, journal, and introspection. However, since I have always had a web page, to one extent or another, blogging is also another way of enjoying the WWW, its technology, and its world-wide community. For now I won’t over-analyze it.
