Song of The Day: Fat Lip - Artist: Sum 41
So what is interesting to write about today? Hmmm…. What about the Writely acquisition by Google? As I type, I’m using the Writely editor for today’s blog entry. I had registered and reviewed Writely during the holidays along with other think week activities. I was impressed with what Upstartle had accomplished with a standalone web browser, but didn’t dwell too much on the beginning of a whole new way of managing documents because I didn’t see myself ditching Word and migrating all of my other documents that week and switching. However, I do recognize how people could switch over time when compatibilities and other features are addressed. Between work, home, and other activities, it is a pain–even with a flash memory device and Internet connectivity–to version, store, transport, and share documents. Having a destination that can version and store data and translate between presentations and services (e.g., Word, PDF, HTML, Blogs, etc.) for documents in an easy-to-use fashion on-and-off-line is, well, disruptive.
Now that Google has bought them, one can imagine the possibilities.
