Song of The Day: You’re Still You - Artist: Josh Groban

As a follow-up to my post about Google’s, I thought that the Amazon Best Of 2006 list was an interesting review as well. If for no other reason it is typically difficult to transform searching, ads, and online research into acquisitions. Already advertisers are considering alternatives to online campaigns due to the margins.

It’s not scientific of course, but interesting.

Observations:

  • Confirmation? I knew the Xbox 360 was good; it beat out PS3 :) (i.e., on the Most Popular Gifts list); however, this probably has way more to do with availability and price than good vs. better. As evidence, the PS3 is on the Most Expensive Items Purchased list (#9 at $3K).
  • Surprises? The book Good to Great is a, well, great book; but at the top of the Best Selling list? I guess I would have expected Harry Potter and the Sorcer’s Stone in that category, as well as the latter book leading the Most-Loved Product category.
  • Popular? Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest makes the top 3 in 4 categories with its collector’s DVD. Perhaps one of the stronger “unscientific” correlations between searching on Google (Orlando Bloom) and purchasing.
  • Funny? No Britney Spears or Paris Hilton books or audio CDs on the lists. Lindsey Lohan wins out by making #3 of Most-Loved Products with Mean Girls. Now, Britney and Paris are both scrambling.
  • Celestial Happiness? I couldn’t help but notice the Meade 8″ SCT telescope at #18 on the Most Expensive Items Purchased list. It may be pricey, but I can vouch that a good astro-scope (say $500+ range) provides many years of enjoyment–unless maybe you’re in a light pollued city :).
  • My Pop Culture Off? Josh Groban on the Most-Loved Products list?

Oh well…fascinating stuff. 600) )4j.
