Last Lecture

So I was checking out audio books on iTunes and saw that The Last Lecture resides at the top spot.

Although I haven’t read the book by Randy Pausch yet, I have watched his Last Lecture online. If you haven’t seen it before take a look here.

Randy Pausch is a CS professor at CMU and a gifted, inspirational speaker. Back in August of 2007 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given 3-6 months to live.

He was also a professor at UVA between 1988 and 1997. Unfortunately, I missed an opportunity to see him speak last November 24 at UVA Cabell Hall.

Also, I’ve been checking out a recent version of his professional legacy, Alice, for OS X Leopard, which is virtual reality scripting and prototyping environment for kids.

Pretty cool stuff! A true inspiration in the field, any field.

Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon

Alright…I’ve been letting the blog slip into a static home page! Have had a few things going on professionally and personally, so it’s been on the back burner.

I thought I’d break the no-update-streak with a post about the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon in Fredericksburg, VA. I signed up for the event last December; it’s hard to believe that May is already here. It was the races inaugural, so it was nice to be a part of it.

I ran the race with a time of 2:13:03. The weather was good; the scenery during the event was beautiful; and the supporters, on sidewalks and on home porches, were awesome. I really hope the event continues to take off in the future.

Hopefully, this will kick-start training for the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon next October. Here are a couple of thumbnails below, pictures are still be processed from the event, until I have better ones.
