Yahoo! and Miller Time

Song of The Day: Battleflag - Artist: Lo Fidelity Allstars

So Yahoo! reaches an early end to its nasty proxy fight. This is not as surprising, in my book, as seeing one name mentioned with the slate of Icahn directors: Jon Miller.

We’ve also agreed to expand our Board to make room for two additional members to be chosen by the Board upon the recommendation of the Board’s Nominating and Governance Committee from a list that includes the rest of Mr. Icahn’s slate and Jon Miller, former Chairman and CEO of AOL.

Read the whole thing from Mr. Yang here.

If that name isn’t familiar then read all about Miller’s departure from AOL in 2006. A phoenix rising? Don’t know, but certainly interesting with possible foreshadowing of a Yahoo!-AOL deal.

WWDC 2008 and Future

Song of The Day: Satellite - Artist: Dave Matthews Band

Haven’t written in a while, but there’s been a lot going on! First, I hit Apple’s WWDC 2008 earlier in the month. Steve Jobs announced the future launch of the iPhone 3G, coming July 11th for $199 in 22 countries (i.e., initially and eventually 70 overall). That’s quite a price decrease, regardless of the service plan debate, and I expect the new price, features (e.g., GPS and Exchange support), and international launch to greatly spur demand.

What did I take away from the event? AppStore. On July 11th, or around that time, Apple will enable 3rd party applications to be downloaded onto all iPhones and iPod Touches, which have an up-and-coming operating system installed.

It’s an exciting time for consumers and developers.

Favorite conf-part: working with Apple engineers directly on some tasks.

Favorite fun-part: BNL at Yerba Buena Gardens.

Favorite unexpected: Hooking up with old friends and making some new.
