While Yahoo! acquired Maven Networks for 160M, a large shareholder predicts Microsoft will acquire Yahoo! for a share price slightly below $40.
Apparently, Google sours on a deal.

Subject: our board’s decision
yahoos
as you’ll see from the news release we issued today, our board of directors has reviewed microsoft’s unsolicited proposal with yahoo!’s management, financial and legal advisors. after a careful evaluation, the board has unanimously concluded that the proposal is not in the best interests of yahoo! and our stockholders. of course, the board of directors is continuously evaluating all of its strategic options in the context…
Requires a subscription for the entire article, but more thoughts and review after the jump…

After a series of meetings over the past week, Yahoo’s board determined that the $31 per share offer “massively undervalues” Yahoo, the person said. It also doesn’t account for the risks Yahoo would be taking by entering into an agreement that might be overturned by regulators. The board plans to send a letter to Microsoft Monday, spelling out its position.
Although I expected this, I’m still glad to see fight left in Yahoo! As one of the all-time Internet greats, it’s good to see, that they still see, more value in the company.
Do this or else type offers are risky, but Microsoft may get the desired effect by coercing Yahoo! back to the bargaining table. With Microsoft’s persistent culture and vast coffers those qualities could help Yahoo! in the battle to gain ground.
Unless Microsoft continues to show their hostile side, I would expect a Google-AOL type deal or other partnership.
As always, we’ll see….

Some of the links are broken due to a recent mishap with Jumpline, the hosting provider I was using.
In short my files on Jumpline’s particular box were wiped out because, get this, I violated their terms of service for compiling a custom version of Apache 2.2 with PHP 5, which was supposedly causing CPU spikes. I’m not sure if that was true (i.e., it had hardly any traffic) or not, but if true, it was probably due to Apache’s interaction with their virtualization software. Ugh!
Their default action was to the suspend the account, and then it could only be reactivated by erasing/reinstalling the entire image! I had no idea that that would happen and I voiced my displeasure about their actions. I mean they didn’t even ask me if I needed anything off of the box before doing it! And, all they really had to do was kill the custom httpd daemon.
I have backups of things, but will need to retrieve the archives and repost.
I now have a new provider cari.net, with which I am very happy.
For now please excuse a few of the broken links, etc. until I can get things fixed.

Quote from the WSJ Online:
Microsoft offered to buy Yahoo for $44.6 billion in a cash and share deal, a move designed to help both companies compete against industry leader Google. Yahoo said it will “evaluate this proposal carefully and promptly.” Yahoo shares soared 50% in premarket trading, while Google shares were down 8%.
I really don’t see this happening, and if it does for some lottery chance, or working for one reason alone: culture. Two completely different approaches to, well, everything.
I’ll leave it at that. I would expect other bids from Google and maybe Time Warner before this comes to a conclusion.

Today’s entry may seem a bit bizarre, but I just had to write something about last night’s hottest concert ticket in town: Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus.

So why the entry about this today? Well, for those not fortunate enough to hit the concert tour, or for those that didn’t get enough of the tour, there is a 3-D movie coming soon. That’s right! You too can see what the hype is all about.
